Netherlands Previous World Cup Record:

The Netherlands remain the most talented nation never to have won the World Cup. They came close in the 1970s on two occasions, taking the lead against West Germany in the 1974 final before succumbing 2-1 and losing 3-1 to Argentina after extra time in the 1978 showpiece.

The Dutch did not then qualify for another World Cup until 1990 when they were knocked out in the last sixteen after an ugly match with eventual winners Germany. They reached the quarter finals in the USA in 1994 before they came achingly close to another Final appearance in 1998. Only a penalty shootout defeat to Brazil cost them the chance to take on France in the 1998 final.

The Oranje’s most recent appearance at a World Cup was in 2006 when they were disappointingly eliminated in the last sixteen by Portugal.

DenmarkPrevious World Cup Record:

Whilst 2010 will only be Denmark’s fourth appearance at a World Cup, they have an impressive record at the tournament itself.

The Danes have never failed to get past the first round at any of their previous three World Cups. They reached the last sixteen on their debut in the Finals in 1986 only to be thumped 5-1 by an Emilio Butragueno inspired Spain. They beat Saudi Arabia and Nigeria in 1998 on their way to the quarter finals where they were narrowly eliminated 3-2 by Brazil.

Their most recent appearance was in 2002 when they were beaten 3-0 in the last sixteen by England.
